DescriptionSeptember in the Rain Production Cels Group of 2 (Warner Brothers, 1937). Featuring grocery products coming to life in musical numbers, the Friz Freleng-directed short was released on 12/18/37. Due to some politically insensitive racial stereotypes, it is not frequently aired, though it isn't one of Warner Brothers' notorious "Censored 11" cartoons. Included in this lot is a pair of hand-inked, hand-painted, 12 field, 2 -peghole, production cels from this early Warner Brothers short. One has Louis Armstrong playing his trumpet in the "Nagasaki" musical number. He (along with Fats Waller) appeared as a character on a "Gold Rust Twins Washing Powder" package and this image can be seen around 5:14 mark. The second cel is of Aunt Emma (aka Aunt Jemima) who is dancing to the music of Fats and Louis. The Louis Armstrong cel has minor paint loss on the foot, arm, and pants. Aunt Emma's cel has been trimmed to 9" x 11". Non-laminated Warner Brothers production cels from this time period are considered as rare as they get. Both are nitrate cels and exhibit some rippling; otherwise, condition is Very Good.
