Description

Robot Carnival "Star Light Angel" Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background (A.P.P.P., 1987). The robot amusement park employees look on as a young girl flies overhead in this spectacular hand-painted original production cel setup from the "Star Light Angel" segment of the sci fi anthology film Robot Carnival. Presented on its original Key Master background rendered in bright neon colors in gouache, this setup can be seen at the 10:34 mark of the alternate-order American release of the film, as seen on YouTube. Extremely rare, this image was also used for the Streamline Pictures VHS cover, and it can be seen on page 31 of the German Film Institute's gallery exhibition book Ga-Netchu! The Manga Anime Syndrome. In addition, this wonderful setup is accompanied by its matching rough layout drawing rendered in graphite on 12" x 10" animation paper, created for the purposes of composing the shot. "Star Light Angel" was directed by Hiroyuki Kitazume, of Zeta Gundam fame, and the backgrounds were created by Yui Shimazaki. The Key Master setup shows minor handling and edge wear with the background showing some light wrinkling and taping on the right side. It measures an overall 14.25" x 10". The drawing shows folding in corners with tape and staple holes at the top edge, and its condition is Good. The condition of the rare and complete Key Master setup is Very Good.
