Robot Carnival "Franken's Gears" Production Cel Setup with Key Master Pan Background (A.P.P.P., 1987). A simply jaw-dropping piece, presented is a hand-painted original production cel setup presented on its original Key Master pan background from the sci fi anthology masterpiece Robot Carnival. Measuring an enormous 26.25" x 15.5", this impressive pan shot can be seen beginning at the 35:17 mark of the film in the Frankenstein-inspired segment "Franken's Gears". A remarkable showcase of elaborate robotic, mechanical and technological effects, "Franken's Gears" revisits the themes of Mary Shelley's classic novel, exploring the allegory of the human pursuit of knowledge and its inherent dangers. The segment was directed by the great Koji Morimoto, known for his exemplary work on the acclaimed Akira, The Animatrix, and Memories among many others. The rich, detailed and textural backgrounds like this one were rendered masterfully in gouache by Yuji Ikehata. This magnificent piece shows handling and edge wear from normal production use with some tearing, light folding, and taping in places. There is a black sheet attached to the back side, and the condition overall is Very Good.
