Description

Robin Hood Pan Layout Drawing (Walt Disney, 1973). Here's a fantastic layout drawing of Prince John's castle from the 1973 Walt Disney feature animated film, Robin Hood. Background layout design for animation is the process of conceptualizing environments based on the story of the animated film, and adapting it to the stylistic choices of the film. The primary role of the layout artist is to design the stage on which the animation of the character or special effects takes place. The layout design comes in as early as the storyboard drawings are done. Layout artists then develop them into detailed backdrops, which are further used by the animators and the background painters. Layouts for Robin Hood were done by Basil Davidovich, Sylvia Roemer, Ed Templer Jr. and Joe Hale under the art direction of Don Griffith. This layout was rendered in blue pencil on 30" animation paper and matted to 34.25" x 15.5". The piece exhibits edge wear and a fold crease in the center. Overall condition is Good.
