Description
Rare Woodsy Owl PSA Production Cel Signed by Bob Kurtz (Kurtz & Friends, c. 1970s-80s). "So look around and pass the word to everyone you know, and never be a dirty bird no matter where you go." Woodsy the Owl first appeared in 1971 and has been helping the US Forest Service educate and raise awareness on pollution ever since. Get an early look at him in this rare 12 field production cel from a 1970-80s PSA commercial! The animation was created by Kurtz & Friends (Jurassic Park, Honey, I Blew up the Kid, and City Slickers) and directed by studio founder Bob Kurtz. Kurtz graduated from Chouinard Art Institute and directed every animated short created by the studio, winning prestigious awards like an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program and a Winsor McCay award for lifetime achievement in animation. He signed the cel in the lower right. Woodsy was created for the opening scene as he is introduced on stage and is full figure and centered on the cel at about 4'' x 3.5'', displayed on a scene-matching print background for presentation purposes and marked 2 at the bottom right. With only light edge and handling wear, the lot is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
