    Description

Private Pluto Production Cel (Walt Disney, 1943). Here's a rare production cel of Pluto from the 1943 Clyde Geronimi-directed cartoon Private Pluto. This short showcases Pluto as a guard dog on a military base. He's told there are saboteurs, and is assigned to guard a pillbox. First, Pluto tries to follow marching orders, contorting himself into quite a mess. Then, he engages in hijinks with Chip and Dale who are using a cannon to store and crack their nuts, and a war of wits naturally ensues. This fantastic image of Mickey's pet dog who first appeared as a nameless bloodhound in 1930's The Chain Gang. Named by Walt Disney, Pluto is unique for a character in Mickey's world, in that he is not human-like beyond showing a broad range of facial expressions; he is actually represented as a normal dog, lacking speech and the ability to walk upright. This great image was hand-inked and hand-painted on acetate trimmed to 8" x 7". The cel is paired with a 12" x 9" background copy/print for presentation purposes. Artwork condition is Very Good.
