Description

Popeye the Sailor "Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp" Popeye Nitrate Production Cel and Trimmed Master Production Background (Fleischer Studios, 1939). "Where is he? Let me get me hands on him!" Popeye takes on the role of Aladdin in this epic 2-reel short, battling the evil vizier to rescue princess Olive Oyl. The short was directed by Dave Fleischer and Dave Tendlar. This lot features an amazing hand-inked and hand-colored 12 field 3-peghole nitrate production cel and a stunning trimmed Master background from this incredible short. The detailed gouache background captures the top of the stairs at about the 19:55 timestamp while the cel looks to have been created for the 19:48 mark as Popeye battles the invisible vizier. The cel is noted as 20 in the upper right with Popeye and the sword measuring about 7.75'' x 7.75'' combined. The background measures roughly 10.5'' x 8.25'' and includes a production stamp on the back with the first names of the tracing and rendering artists, dates, production code X-8-1, and scene numbers 116 and 121. Minor edge and handling wear on the background with edge and handling wear, faint chipping, and faint paint separation on the cel. Very Good condition for the background and Fair condition the cel.
