Description
Popeye Production Cel Setup with Production Background (Famous Studios, c. 1940s/1950s). Popeye and Bluto are at it again in this incredible two-layer hand-inked and hand-painted production cel and hand-painted background from the beloved Popeye the Sailor series. The 12 field 3-peghole production cels feature a furious Popeye on one cel and a smirking Bluto and wailing Olive Oyl on another. Both are classic versions of these charming characters in full figure with great expressions and poses, the characters measuring about 6'' x 4.25'' combined. The 3-peghole gouache background is also from a Famous Studios Popeye short and is originally from the Robert Little Collection, marked with P-7-3 and beautifully detailed with a dock and open water. Robert Little (1902 - 1994) was an accomplished artist and worked as a background artist on a variety of animated shorts and films, including Gulliver's Travels, Jungle Drums, and Beetle Bailey. Good to Very Good condition for this amazing production cel setup and production background with minor edge and handling wear and faint paint separation.Auction Info
