Description
Pinocchio Stromboli and Pinocchio Production Cel Courvoisier Setup with Key Master Background (Walt Disney, 1940). "I'll be back in the morning." After a successful performance, Pinocchio gets ready to return home, to the distress of the showman Stromboli. From Disney's emblematic animated classic Pinocchio, we offer in this lot an extraordinary hand-painted and hand-inked Courvoisier setup featuring our titular protagonist and the wicked antagonist, shown on their Key Master background. In 1938, an agreement was signed between Walt Disney and Guthrie Courvoisier of Courvoisier Galleries, granting him the exclusive rights to market and sell original Disney art. This setup presents a remarkable full-figure image of Pinocchio after putting his hat back on, as he appears at the 42:14 timestamp of the film, measuring 2.5" x 4.75", while Stromboli, who appears moments after, is shown measuring 6.5" x 4.25". Both professionally trimmed to image, the characters are displayed on the colorful Key Master background for the scene, rendering the detailed inside of Stromboli's wagon in gouache. Background artists for this film include Art Riley, Claude Coats, Merle Cox, Ed Starr, Ray Huffine, Dick Anthony, Al Dempster, Eric Hansen, Mique Nelson, Maurice Noble, and Ralph Hulett. The lot is displayed on a 22" x 19" Plexiglas-fronted frame with a 13.25" x 10.5" showcasing the Courvoisier sticker on the back. All frames are sold as-is.
