Description

Phoenix Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background (Tezuka Productions, 1980). The elusive, godlike Phoenix flies through the stars in this stunning original production cel setup. Phoenix was created by the legendary "Godfather of Manga" Osamu Tezuka, and the artist considered the series his "life's work". The manga consists of 12 books, each of which tells a separate, self-contained story centered around the titular Phoenix, and the plots go back and forth from the distant future to prehistoric times. Hand-inked and hand-painted, this stunning piece is believed to have been created for the 1980 film Phoenix 2772. Production artwork of The Phoenix is considered very rare and highly prized by collectors, as the character's appearances in the stories are few and far between. Featuring the eponymous subject of Tezuka's greatest stories, this magnificent cel is a prize for any anime collection. The cel is presented on its black paper Key Master background, throughout which are tiny pinholes. The setup was designed to pass light through the back for an impressive, glittery glow effect. Both the cels and background are numbered A14 in the upper right corner. Minor handling and edge wear, and this rare 12 field setup is in Very Good condition.
