Peter Pan RARE Captain Hook Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background (Walt Disney, 1953). This is a RARE and exceptional Key Master setup from Walt Disney's 14th animated feature, Peter Pan (1953), featuring the cunning Captain Hook in one of his most memorable moments. This one-of-a-kind setup includes an original 12-field hand-inked, hand-painted production cel of Captain Hook peering through his spy-glass, paired with the original scene-matched Key Master background depicting the deck of the Jolly Roger-complete with a treasure chest sitting behind the villainous captain. The magnificent gouache background was painted by Disney's elite background team, which included Al Dempster, Eyvind Earle, Ray Huffine, Ralph Hulett, Art Riley, and Thelma Witmer with the great Mary Blair serving as color stylist. Set in Edwardian London and the magical world of Neverland, Peter Pan introduced audiences to the elegant yet ruthless Hook, the pirate commander of the Jolly Roger and sworn enemy of Peter Pan. Created by Disney Legend Frank Thomas, Hook was envisioned as excessively vain, menacing, and darkly humorous. Walt himself insisted, "Maybe with the crocodile and Hook - the crocodile is waiting for him - then have a funny chase - the last you see is Hook going like hell. That's better than having him get caught... the audience will get to liking Hook and they won't want to see him killed." This Key Master perfectly captures Hook's expressive character and Disney's mid-century animation artistry at its finest. Framed to 25" x 21.5" and accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from Linda Jones, this masterpiece represents one of the most iconic villain images ever produced. Cel condition is Very Good.
