Description

Peter Pan Captain Hook Production Cel (Walt Disney, 1953). "I've waited years for this." In this lot is a hand-painted production cel featuring Captain Hook from Walt Disney's 14th animated feature, Peter Pan (1953)-the last film to include all of "Walt's Nine Old Men" on the animation crew. "The world's most famous crook," Hook was voiced with delicious malice by Hans Conried, designed by Milt Kahl, and primarily animated by Frank Thomas, with key sequences assisted by Woolie Reitherman and Ward Kimball-all official Disney Legends. Dapper yet dastardly, the captain of the Jolly Roger has forsaken blue-water pirating for a single obsession: vengeance on Peter Pan for severing his left hand and feeding it to the ticking crocodile that now stalks him. While a worthy foil for Pan, Hook's bravado is often undone by his own temper and the bumbling of his first mate. This strong, characterful image of Hook is painted on acetate trimmed to approximately 7" x 11" and paired with a printed background for display impact, found at about 27:11 as Hook prepares for battle with Peter after spotting his nemesis in the clouds with Wendy, Michael, and John upon their arrival to Neverland. The cel requires restoration to areas of Hook's hair where paint has flaked. Otherwise, condition is Fair to Good-an evocative artifact from Disney's golden-age character animation.
