Description
Patlabor 2: The Movie AV-98 Unit 2, Unit 1, and Unit 3 Production Cel with Key Master Background (Production I.G, 1993). This lot offers an incredibly rare hand-painted Key Master setup from Mamoru Oshii's Patlabor 2: The Movie, featuring the AV-98 Ingram Unit 01, 02, and 03 during the remarkable secret operation on the subway passageway. Widely acclaimed, this film is known for its thrilling plot centered on political and military intrigue. Featuring an astonishing image of the three mechas wearing the tactical gear appearing at approximately the 1:39:17 mark, this 14.25" x 9" five-layer cel shows Unit 1 and 3 on the back, sharing an image size of 3.5" x 4.5" while the monumental looking Unit 2, in the foreground, measures 7.75" x 8". The cel also presents the smoke seen on the aftermath of the enemy fire and the illuminated platform. The Key Master background shows the abandoned area illuminated by red light, skillfully rendered in gouache on a 14.25" x 10" background board. Some fading is present on the linework. The cel has its layers taped together and to the background with archival artist tape. Light surface scuffing can be seen on the cel, not affecting the art. With mild handling and edge wear from production, the lot is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
