Description

Out on a Limb Chip 'n' Dale Production Cel Setup and Key Master Background by Thelma Witmer (Walt Disney, 1950). From Walt Disney's 1950 Donald Duck short, Out on a Limb, we present a terrific vintage production setup featuring Chip 'n' Dale! The rascally chipmunks appear as great full-body, hand-inked and hand-painted images, trimmed to image and applied to a clean 12-field production cel. Most impressively, the cel is paired with the Key Master background-hand-painted by Disney stalwart Thelma Witmer. Witmer, hired by Disney in 1944, brought a bold, modern sensibility to shorts starring Donald, Pluto, Goofy, and Chip 'n' Dale, and later contributed memorable backgrounds to Cinderella (1950), Alice in Wonderland (1951), and Peter Pan (1953). Out on a Limb finds Donald doing "tree surgery" when he torments the nut-gathering duo-sawing off their branch, tarring the exit, and snipping away with long-handled shears-classic, fast-on-the-beat comedy featuring Bill Justice's beloved chipmunk team. This rare, scene-matched setup is matted to 17.5" x 14.5" and displays beautifully, with crisp paint and excellent color harmony between cel and background. A true prize for collectors of Chip 'n' Dale and Golden Age Disney production art. In Very Good condition.
