Description
One Piece: Defeat the Pirate Ganzack! Monkey D. Luffy Production Cel (Production I.G., 1998). At the 1998 Jump Super Anime Tour, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the manga magazine Shonen Jump, three original video animations were screened, a pilot for Sikimatsu Leader den Takeshi! and Hunter x Hunter, and the original OVA One Piece: Defeat the Pirate Ganzack! This was the first time that the characters from Eiichiro Oda's long-running manga were brought into the anime world. Animated by the studio Production I.G. and directed by Gorou Taniguchi, the short film presented Luffy, Zoro, and Nami in a completely new adventure with a script by Hiroaki Kitajima. During the film, Luffy's crew confronts the evil pirate Ganzack, who has the entire population of an island as hostages. Presented in this lot, we have an outstanding image of the Straw Hat Pirate Luffy, seen at the 11:28 mark of the OVA in the middle of a fight against the pirate Ganzack. The hand-painted 12 field sized production cel, numbered A8 in the top right corner, showcases the pirate with rubber powers, Luffy, measuring 8.25" x 7.25". Created prior to the anime series that was produced digitally, this is one of the first of two One Piece movies that implemented cels in its production, making this amazing production cel of Luffy with his iconic straw hat extremely rare! The cel is displayed on a printed background for presentation purposes, and it is accompanied by a Japan Anime & Manga Appraisal Committee Registration Certificate.
