Neon Genesis Evangelion "Showdown in Tokyo-3" Rei Ayanami Production Cel (Gainax, 1995). Preparing before attacking Ramiel, an angel with an almost impenetrable defense, Shinji asks Rei an interesting question, "Why do you pilot this thing?" and after meditating on that for a little bit, she answers, "I'm bound." The cel featured in this lot shows Rei, at the 16:21 mark of Episode 6 of Neon Genesis Evangelion, as she thinks about her answer for two seconds before responding. This beautiful cel has the meditative Rei measuring a figure size of 7.25" x 7.25" on the hand-painted 12 field-sized production cel, numbered B-5 in the top right corner. The matching animation drawing, rendered in graphite and colored pencils, is also featured in the lot. The cel is presented on a printed background and includes a print copy of the Eva 00 behind Rei and the background without the Eva. The animation drawing has some paint from production, a piece of paper missing from the center, and it is in Poor condition. Showing light fading on the linework and minor handling wear from production, the cel is in Very Good condition.
