Description
Neon Genesis Evangelion Opening Title Sequence Misato Katsuragi Production Cel with Master Background and Animation Drawing Group of 3 (Gainax, c. 1995-96). It is impossible to view this hand-painted original production cel without hearing the iconic opening theme song "Cruel Angel's Thesis" from the monumental anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Seen for a brief moment at the 1:20 mark of the notoriously flashy title sequence, this is a marvelous piece featuring Misato Katsuragi. Misato is hand-painted at 9.25" tall on the 12 field cel (the image is seen horizontally in the series). The cel is painted almost entirely, with elements left open to reveal a fiery Master background rendered in gouache on background board. It goes without saying that this unique cel from the unforgettable opening title sequence is extremely rare, and it is a must-have for any fan of the groundbreaking series. It is joined by its matching original animation drawing rendered in graphite and color pencil with production notes in red pen. Also included is a studio-photocopied layout drawing with some color pencil sketching. The drawing is extended to a short pan with tape, and both the setup and drawing are numbered A1 (this is the only image from the shot!) Overall minor handling and edge wear, and the trimmed background has one pinhole in each corner. The condition is Very Good.Auction Info
