Description

Neon Genesis Evangelion "Asuka Strikes!" Asuka Langley Soryu and Shinji Ikari Production Cel with Produdction Background and Animation Drawing (Gainax,1995). "What is that!?" After feeling a powerful undersea shock wave, Shinji and Asuka rush to the main deck to see what caused the explosion. This incredible lot features a spectacular production cel setup with hand-painted production background from the eighth episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion, "Asuka Strikes!". The cel depicts Shinji and Asuka, in her debut look, wearing her memorable sundress, rushing to look over the deck of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, "Over the Rainbow," as the Angel attacks at the 8:50 mark of the episode. This memorable moment with Asuka and Shinji is perhaps one of the most famous moments in the show, as it presents the two pilots just before they both board the Eva Unit 02 to fight the aquatic Angel Gaghiel. The large pan cel setup measures 15.25" x 10" with an image area of 14.25" x 8" with the background of the sky rendered in gouache on background board. An animation drawing of the ship details is included, rendered in graphite with colored pencil and color callouts with red ink. The background is partially trimmed at the edges, and the cel setup is in Good to Very Good condition with minor handling and edge wear from production, some scattered small spots of paint loss, small areas of discoloration to the cel, and wear to the background.
