Mug Root Beer "Hippo" Commercial Production Cel Setups and Drawings Group (Kurtz and Friends, c. 1970s). Here's a fun group that includes a pair of 2-cel setups with matching animation drawings and a matted single cel, from the late 1970s "Animal Training School" series of Mug Root Beer animated commercials. The series included spots featuring electric eels, lions, and so on, always ending with something like "After you give up, pour yourself a glass of Mug Root Beer." Here we have scenes from the ad that went "Train your hippo to roll over" and "Second trick -- get off." These are hand-inked, hand-painted 12 field cels; the first has a T-shirt wearing hippo being fed all manner of vegetables (image size 8.5" x 5.5"; includes matching graphite animation drawing); next, the hippo clamping his mouth down (image size 9" x 5.75"; includes graphite and blue pencil drawing); and finally, a contented-looking Hippo, with a Mug Root Beer logo on his shirt (image size 7.25" x 5.5", signed by director Bob Kurtz). The last cel is matted to an overall size of 18" x 14". Very Good condition with minor handling wear.
