Description

Mr. Magoo "The Dog Snatcher" Production Cel Setup with Production Background (UPA, c. 1952/60s). The nearsighted J. Quincy Magoo tries on some specs in this delightful original production cel setup presented on a UPA studio background. This character got his start in theatrical cartoons in the 1950's but soon became one of the more popular television shows in the 60's to come out of UPA studios. The hand-inked hand-painted image of Mr. Magoo measures approximately 2.25" x 3.5" on the 12 field cel. From the 1952 episode "The Dog Snatcher," in which Mr. Magoo's dog is threatened by a dog catcher (who Magoo takes for a policeman), and the legally blind Magoo is given until noon to license the poor pet. Seen near the 1:49 timestamp with online viewing, when Magoo tries to read a clock. With the paired production background staged for a wide panning shot, hand-painted on an art board measuring 19.25" x 10"in size. Featuring production codes along the bottom edge below the painted image. Showing signs of mild production handling and edgewear with light surface debris, mild linework fading on the production cel, and small bits of paint loss on Mr. Magoo's cheek and hand. Overall, the cel setup is in Good to Very Good condition.
