Mr. Bug Goes to Town Honey Bee and Buzz Production Cel Setup with Honey Shop 55" Pan Master Background (Fleischer Studios, 1941). "Will somebody.. Oh don't stand there! Help! Do something!" Poor Mr. Bumble's Honey Shop is in danger from the smoking tip of a still-lit cigar in this astoundingly immense 55" pan Master background setup featuring production cels of Bumble's darling daughter Honey Bee and the intrepid Bee Scout Buzz from Fleischer Studios' Mr. Bug Goes to Town (also known as Hoppity Goes to Town and Bugville). Previewed on December 5, 1941, with its general Christmas release delayed until the following February, Mr. Bug returned disappointing box-office numbers despite an initial positive reception. Early in the film Honey Bee and Buzz can be spotted reveling Hoppity's return near the 12:00 mark, but moments later the vile C. Bagley Beetle sends a monstrous smoldering cigar careening towards the Honey Shop with the background first spotted centering on the shop's entrance near the 14:01 mark and pans to the fire alarm clock shortly after. The hand-inked, hand-painted cels feature Honey Bee measuring 2.25" x 5.75" with Buzz at 1.75" x 3.5" both appearing in full-figured, and have been professionally restored, meticulously trimmed to edge, and mounted to their Master background. The utterly colossal background has been hand-painted in gouache with mixed media detailing to a nearly edge-to-edge image area of 54.25" x 12.5" on board trimmed to 55.25" x 12.5". It has been matted to an overall size of 56.25" x 17.5" with an aperture of 50.75" x 12"; mat sold as-is. Obscured by the mat, the left margin includes the production code F9-1 with scene number 1-75 as well as a studio approval stamp signed by Fleischer scenic artist Robert Little (1902 - 1994). With typical handling and edge wear including the noted trimming and restoration with minor surface wear/debris, overall this substantial and outstanding Master setup featuring the Honey Shop is in Very Good condition.
