Mobile Suit Gundam RX-78-2 Production Cel (Nippon Sunrise, c. 1979-80). An astonishingly rare find, presented is an incredible original production cel featuring the original Gundam, the iconic RX-78-2 from Yoshiyuki Tomino's groundbreaking anime classic Mobile Suit Gundam. An earnest portrayal of war from the perspective of flawed human characters, Gundam met with universal acclaim on its premiere, and it spawned a massive franchise in the decades to come. Piloted by protagonist Amuro Ray, the RX-78-2 was built in secret on the space colony Side 7. The Gundam would turn the tide of war in favor of the Earth Federation during the One Year War against the Principality of Zeon. A spectacular low-angle shot, this cel has a hand-painted image area of 10.25" x 7.25" on the 12 field cel. This cel will be a crown jewel for any Gundam collection, a stunning and dramatic full-figure depiction of the RX-78-2 in action. The piece is displayed on a printed background for presentation purposes, and it shows minor handling and edge wear from normal studio use. The cel is numbered A4.
