Description
Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol Mr. Magoo as Ebenezer Scrooge with Turkey Boy Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background and Group of 2 Animation Drawings (UPA, 1962). "Hello there! What's today? Ah, what's today, my fine fellow?" inquires Scrooge as he giggles and hangs out of his window by his feet. "Today? Why, Christmas day!" responds the young boy on the street outside, bewildered by Scrooge's giddy behavior. Here is a marvelous (and hilarious!) original production cel setup from Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol, complete with its matching original Key Master background. This iconic image can be seen at about the 42:17 mark of the special, and anyone who's seen the special will recall this funny moment. The image is composed of two original, hand-painted, hand-inked 12 field production cels that depict Scrooge's feet on his window ledge, as well as the confused boy peeking out from behind a snowman. This is the boy that Scrooge enlists to fetch the biggest turkey at the butcher shop for the Cratchit family. Scrooge's feet measure about 3" x 2.25", and the "turkey boy" measures about 0.5" x 1". Completing the image is the wonderful hand-painted Key master background, as well as a hand-painted recreation cel overlay that contains the image of the window ledge. The background is created with acrylic paint on 13.75" x 10.5" background board, and the overlay is rendered in gouache. This setup can be seen in the book Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol: The Making of the First Animated Christmas Special on Page 128. The setup also comes with two original animation drawings matching the cels of Scrooge's feet and the turkey boy. They are rendered with graphite and red pencil on 12 field animation paper, and they also contain color notes for Ink and Paint. The cel setup and drawings are in Very Good condition overall, with some handling and edge wear. The pegholes of Scrooge's cel have been trimmed off, and the cel has a slight crease on its lower right corner. The background has some minor abrasion on its edges. The drawings have some toning and minor staining.From the Darrell Van Citters Collection.
