    Description

Mickey's Birthday Party Goofy Production Cel and Key Master Background (Walt Disney, 1942). "Close your eyes, don't peak, I've got a surprise for you... Happy Birthday!" Released on 2/7/42, this short was directed by Riley Thompson and starred Mickey Mouse along with Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, and Clara Cluck. In it, Goofy has all kinds of trouble baking the surprise birthday cake, so he hatches a plan to go to the bakery and buy one. This is a full 12 field nitrate cel of Goofy coming through a door with the surprise birthday cake near the 7:33 minute mark. This impressive full figure Goofy stands 8" and his hand-inked and painted production cel is on its Key Master hand-painted production background. The cel has some paint missing in his hat, face, and cake, and paint cracks on the door and throughout the cake. It needs professional restoration to bring it back to its former glory, but a Mickey Mouse theatrical short on a Key Master setup of this era would be worth the effort. It is framed with a mat opening of 8.5" x 11", in a 20" x 22" frame. Condition is Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
