Melody Time "Once Upon a Wintertime" Production Cel Setup with Custom Background (Walt Disney, 1948). "Here in this wonderland, romance is the theme, for this is the story of love's young dream." An iconic image from the "Once Upon a Wintertime" segment of the Walt Disney package film Melody Time, this is a fantastic production cel setup. Seen at the 3:24 mark of the film (the very beginning of the segment), these fantastic background elements were painted on cels and trimmed to image to create a sweeping camera effect in the final shot. Elaborate and multilayered using several animation techniques, this piece includes the translucent cel that was backlit for a lighting effect on the lamp. An impressive showcase of creative animation ingenuity, this piece is a also a lovely image from the popular segment. "Once Upon a Wintertime" was famously styled based on the Color Key and concept artwork of Mary Blair, and it is regarded as a work of Walt Disney animation in which Mary Blair's distinctive style is most evident in the final film. This exemplary setup is presented on a custom hand-painted background rendered in gouache using airbrush techniques on illustration board. It measures an overall 12" x 11", and shows minor handling and edge wear with some cracking on the lamp. The condition is Very Good.Auction Info
