Description

Make Mine Music "Peter and the Wolf" Sonia the Duck Production Cel (Walt Disney, 1946). From the "Peter and the Wolf" segment of Disney's 1946 package film Make Mine Music, we have an amazing full figure production cel of Sonia the Duck! "Peter and the Wolf" was narrated by Sterling Holloway and was based on the 1936 fairy tale by Sergei Prokofiev. It later released as its own short on 9/14/1955 and told the story of a Russian boy named Peter who set off on an adventure to hunt a wolf with his new animal friends. Each character corresponded with an instrument in the music and the cheerful duck represented the oboe. She is later thought to be eaten by the wolf and her supposed sacrifice leads everyone to join together and catch the beast, though it's later revealed she is alive and well. Sonia measures approximately 4.75'' x 3'' and has been meticulously trimmed to figure and attached to a new 13'' x 13'' cel, hand-painted and hand-inked. Sonia appears at roughly 7:26 into the segment as she, Peter, Sasha, and Ivan trudge backwards in the snow, eventually backing into the terrifying wolf. The cel is trimmed and displayed in a 20'' x 16'' mat with a Courvoisier Galleries COA on the back and is in Very Good condition with only light handling wear and professional restoration.
