Description
How Now Boing Boing Production Cel Featuring Gerald McBoing-Boing and Key Master Production Background Attributed to Jules Engle (UPA, 1954). This Key Master setup from UPA's 1954 short film How Now Boing Boing is a rare and charming piece of vintage animation art. Written by Thornton "T." Hee and Robert Cannon, who also directed the film, this animated short features Gerald McCloy, a two-year-old boy who communicates exclusively through sound effects, including his first word, "boing-boing." Frustrated by his inability to speak normally, Gerald's parents hire various experts to teach him to use words, but all fail until Gerald accidentally succeeds when trying to call the psychiatrist. This fantastic Key Master setup depicts Gerald in the phone booth calling the doctor, seen at the 4:51 mark. It consists of a hand-painted 12 field production cel over a hand-painted Key Master background, attributed to UPA founder Jules Engle. UPA, established after the Disney animators' strike of 1941, was known for its innovative and stylized animation. The setup is matted to 18" x 15" and is in Good condition, exhibiting edge wear with tape hidden under the matboard.Auction Info
