Description
Hot and Cold Penguin Chilly Willy Production Cel with Key Master Background (Walter Lantz, 1955). From the third Chilly Willy short Hot and Cold Penguin, we offer in this lot a fabulous Key Master setup featuring our cold protagonist having warm thoughts. Although directed by Alex Lovy, this hilarious short features a comedic style reminiscent of Tex Avery; this is due to Avery leaving unfinished projects before leaving the studio. Released on October 24, 1955, this cartoon featured Chilly Willy noticing a little furnace inside the headquarters guarded by Smedley. Seen at the 1:12 mark of the short, this hand-painted and hand-inked production cel has Chilly dreaming of warming up with the furnace, measuring an image size of 7.5" x 6", featured on the Key Master background of the South Pole, rendered in gouache on 12-field background board, displaying part of the sign that reads "this place is for the byrds" (a reference to South Pole explorer Admiral Byrd). The lot is displayed on a 14" x 11.5" mat with a 12" x 9.5" opening, sold as is. Showing light handling and edge wear from production, the lot is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
