Description

Hare-Um Scare-Um Bugs Bunny Prototype Production Cel (Warner Brothers, 1939). This folks, is a piece of Animation History. It's one of the earliest cels of the character who became Bugs Bunny. This is the third appearance of the prototype Bugs, and the first to be colored grey instead of white. The model sheet on Bugs' redesign was done by Charlie Thorson; the short was directed by Ben "Bugs" Hardaway and Cal Dalton. Legend has it that Thorson's sheet came back marked "Bugs's Bunny" and some animation historians credit this model sheet and cartoon as the inspiration for the "waskally wabbit's" eventual name. This original production cel has been laminated with a screen printed Leon Schlesinger signature that reads, "This is an original painting I used in 'Looney Tunes' and 'Merry Melodies'." This rare and early rendition of Bugs is an outstanding full figure, 4.5" tall. A small tear in the upper left corner background, nowhere near the image. Good condition.
