Hajime no Ippo Eiji Date Production Cel with Custom Painted Background and Animation Drawing (Madhouse, c. 2000-02). Coach and owner of his own gym, former JBC and OPBF featherweight champion Eiji Date makes a striking appearance in this original production cel with custom painted background and matching animation drawing from the notable sports themed anime Hajime no Ippo. Acting primarily as a sparring trainer, this rare image of Date in the ring fills the frame in a remarkable closeup that measures 10.25" x 8.25" on the hand-painted 12 field cel. This intense frame has been paired with a custom painted background rendered brightly in gouache on board trimmed to approximately 14" x 10". The accompanying animation drawing has been rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12 field animation paper; both the cel and drawing bear matching production codes in their upper right corners. Typical studio handling and edge wear including surface scuffing from paint adhesion and minor smudging/staining to the drawing; minor corner creasing with superficial surface wrinkles on the background; and minor linework fading with areas of professional restoration and pinpoint spots of paint wear/loss on the cel.
