Description

Ghost in the Shell Bato Production Cel and Animation Drawing (Production I.G, 1995). "A dummy?" "Possibly. Or maybe that's what they want us to think." Batou trails what he believes to be the robotic body that carries the criminal mastermind Puppet Master in this exceptional hand-painted original production cel from the influential cyberpunk anime film Ghost in the Shell. It was directed by the legendary Mamoru Oshii, also known for Angel's Egg, Patlabor 2 and for writing Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. This animated masterpiece led the animator to international acclaim, often cited by American directors James Cameron and the Wachowskis as a major inspiration for their work. Batou measures 9.5" x 7" on the 14.25" x 9" cel, and the peice is accompanied by a matching animation drawing rendered in graphite and color pencil in the same dimensions, showcasing the impressive lighting and shadow effects seen in the final shot. This moment can be seen at the 57:50 mark of the film. The cel and drawing are both numbered B33 in the upper right corner, and each show minor handling and edge wear. The cel shows some fading in the linework, and the drawing has some paint debris. The condition of the drawing is Good, and the cel's condition is Very Good.
