Description
Figaro and Frankie Figaro Production Cel (Disney, 1945). "Now get going, and save that canary!" Spurred to take drastic and heroic action, Figaro makes his move in this charming original production cel from Figaro and Frankie, one of his theatrical shorts where Minnie is cast as his owner. Geppetto's tiny black kitten quickly became such a fan-favorite that he promptly began appearing in theatrical shorts otherwise unrelated to his 1940 debut in the classic feature film Pinocchio, typically alongside Minnie and/or Pluto. Figaro and Frankie would be his fifth of seven such shorts, debuting on May 30, 1947 under the direction of Charles A. Nichols and almost feels more like a Looney Tunes film with Figaro spending much of the feature aggressively pursuing Frankie the canary. This frame can be spotted near the 5:30 timestamp as Figaro attempts to knock a flowerpot onto the head of a belligerent bulldog growling and yapping below the window in order to save Frankie at the behest of a little angel kitten on his shoulder. Figaro has been hand-inked and hand-painted to a front-facing half-figured character size of approximately 1.75" x 2.25" slightly right of center frame. The piece has been matted to an overall size of 20" x 16" with an aperture of 9.25" x 5.25"; the cel has been trimmed to approximately the same size as the aperture. With typical handling and edge ware including the noted trimming and small spots of linework wear, overall this remorseful feline is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
