    Description

Fantasia "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" Mickey Mouse Production Cel Set-Up (Walt Disney, 1940). Mickey Mouse's greatest role was arguably as the Sorcerer's Apprentice in Fantasia's most memorable sequence. This is a beautiful hand-inked and hand-painted production cel of Mickey with an effects cel of the water overflowing from his soon-to-be-magical buckets, placed over a hand-painted background in an original Courvoisier set-up. A small WDP stamp is visible in the upper left corner. Matted and framed to 13.5" x 14.25", with an image area of approximately 9" x 8". Mickey and his buckets measure 4" x 5". In Very Good condition with a very minor crack in the paint to the bottom of Mickey's left foot. A museum worthy piece, this is one of the finest cels to ever cross our path.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
