Fantasia "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" Mickey Mouse as Sorcerer's Apprentice and Broom Production Cel Courvoisier Setup with Walt Disney Signature and Framed Award Letter Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1940). Offered in this lot is an astounding hand-painted and hand-inked Courvoisier production cel setup from the iconic Fantasia segment "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," a wonderful item originally won by the then-13-year-old Irene Kanelstein with her essay "What I Like Best In Fantasia." The Courvoisier setup shows a wonderful image of Mickey Mouse with his iconic Sorcerer's Apprentice outfit, showing him measuring 2.5" x 4.5" as he appears at the 32:44 mark, while the Broom, filling the bucket with water, can be seen at the 32:36 mark of the movie, with an image size of 3.5" x 3.5", both professionally trimmed to image and shown on a gorgeous Courvoisier background. To substantiate the provenance of this item, it comes with another frame that contains the Courvoisier sticker from the back of the setup, a page on the letterhead of the New York Federation of Music Clubs (which sponsored the essay contest) that has Irene's essay on it, and a newspaper clipping announcing her big win! The lot also shows, beneath the production cel, Walt Disney's dedication "My best wishes to Irene Kanelstein - Winner Fantasia essay contest" prominently showing his famed signature. This fantastic piece of Disney history shows how they connected with a wide audience. The cel and signature are offered on a Plexiglas-fronted 20" x 21" frame, with the essay, Courvoisier sticker, and newspaper clipping displayed on a Plexiglas-fronted 21.25" x 18.5" frame. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The Courvoisier setup shows faint handling and edge wear from production. Toned stains can be seen on the Courvoisier sticker and age-related toning on the clipping. Overall, the lot is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
