Description

Fantasia "The Pastoral Symphony" Baby Pegasus and Faun Production Cel Courvoisier Setup (Walt Disney, 1940). This gorgeous Courvoisier production cel setup from Fantasia's "The Pastoral Symphony" features a playful faun alongside two baby pegasi, rendered with the segment's famous delicate color styling. Inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F major, this fifth sequence in the film evokes an idealized ancient Greece-centaurs, Pegasus families, fauns, cupids, and the Gods of Mount Olympus-through luminous palettes and lyrical staging. The hand-inked and hand-painted images are trimmed to image and mounted to a classic Courvoisier background, then handsomely matted to 20" x 16". The background bears the customary "WDP" stamp associated with period Courvoisier setups. Guthrie Courvoisier, president of San Francisco's Courvoisier Galleries, recognized early that Disney production cels were works of art worthy of galleries and museums. His pioneering presentations elevated studio materials into collectible fine art, helping establish the market and reputation that animation art enjoys today. As such, Courvoisier setups are prized by collectors and represent the birth of animation art collecting. A charming, display-ready ensemble from a landmark film. Condition is vintage Good, with paint cracking and lifting while retaining strong color and appeal.
