Description

Fantasia Pegasus Mother and Three Babies Production Cel Courvoisier Setup with Custom Background (Walt Disney, 1940). It's splashdown time for these beautiful, winged horses known as Pegasi in this beautiful scene from the 1940 Fantasia animated masterpiece. This original hand-inked, hand-painted Courvoisier production cel setup is from the much-loved "Pastoral Symphony" sequence; this cel image can be found at the 1:16:53 timestamp. This is a mini-pan setup; the camera pans to show the yellow baby immediately after this scene in the film. Fantasia is widely thought of as Disney's most beautifully animated film, but audiences didn't quite see it that way; it was considered a failure at the box office when it was released. Disney's other animated feature from 1940 also performed poorly at the box office; both films are considered classics today. As in most Courvoisier setups, the cels have been carefully trimmed to outline; the cels were originally glued to the custom airbrushed background but have since been attached to a cel; you can see some glue staining behind each figure. The overall cel image, including water effects, measures approximately 12" x 6", while the background measures 15" x 10" and includes a small "WDP" symbol in the lower right. The cel was matted and framed but has since been removed, and there is a bit of sticky residue along the edges. The cel colors have faded a pit, particularly the pink baby, and there is handling and edge wear. Overall condition is Good.
