Description
Fantasia "Pastoral Symphony" Mother and Baby Pegasus Production Cel Courvoisier Setup (Walt Disney, 1940). After struggling to fly and crashing into a pile of branches, the little pegasus' mother appears with a sweet smile to ensure he's safe. This adorable trimmed hand-painted and hand-inked production cel Courvoisier setup was created for the "Pastoral Symphony" segment of the animated masterpiece Fantasia. Directed by Hamilton Luske, Jim Handley, and Ford Beebe, the segment took inspiration from Greco-Roman mythology and introduced pegasi, fauns, centaurs and centaurettes, and familiar gods and goddesses like Zeus, Bacchus, Vulcan, Diana, and Iris. The last of the pegasi to take to the sky is this fan favorite pegasus, also called Peter Pegasus, who was considered for a future Fantasia segment. He and his mother appear at about 1:15:50 timestamp before she reassures him and picks him up to fly with her. Roughly 5.25'' x 4.5'' on a coveted 7'' x 6'' Courvoisier background with WDP stamp, the lot is a great reminder of the magic that Disney and Courvoisier worked together to create in 1938 when they made production cel setups like these available to the public. The background is taped to the mat on the reverse with a note about displaying the piece and it is in Good condition overall with some toning to the mat, faint handling, and small areas of paint wear/separation.Auction Info
