Fantasia Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerer's Apprentice Nitrate Production Cel Setup (Walt Disney, 1940). Narrator Deems Taylor opens the Sorcerer's Apprentice section with "And now we're going to hear a piece of music that tells a very definite story. As a matter of fact, in this case, the story came first and the composer wrote the music to go with it. It's a very old story, one that goes back almost 2,000 years, a legend about a Sorcerer who had an apprentice. He was a bright young lad, very anxious to learn the business. As a matter of fact, he was a little too bright, because he started practicing some of the boss's best magic tricks, before learning how to control them." Mickey Mouse's single greatest role is as the Sorcerer's Apprentice in Fantasia. This is an unheard-of full nitrate cel of Mickey as the Sorcerer's Apprentice, leaping onto the bucket of water after the broom has come down the stairs, and began to throw water into the overflowing well. This rare cel has it all: Mickey with his hat, the broom, the bucket, and a rare hand-painted effects cover cel of the water splashing about. Huge image of Mickey, measuring a full 7", with broom size of 6". Dramatic image! Framed using glass and matted, with an opening size of 9.5" x 10"; overall frame is 13.5" x 15". Frame sold as-is. It's easily one of the best pure Fantasia Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickeys we've seen to date! Fine condition.Auction Info
