Donald Gets Drafted Donald Duck Production Cel Courvoisier Setup (Walt Disney, 1942). During WWII Disney produced an array of military films for training, propaganda and entertainment. In fact, the studio's involvement in the war effort helped to keep it afloat in the early '40s. Donald Duck starred in a series of six military-themed theatrical shorts during this period starting with Donald Gets Drafted. This cartoon is best known for having introduced the song "The Army's Not the Army Anymore" written by the legendary Disney comic artist Carl Barks. This is also the cartoon that revealed that Donald's middle name is Fauntleroy on his "Order to Report for Induction" form. Presented here is an original production cel of Private Donald in uniform with rifle misfiring from around the 8:00 mark in this Jack King-directed theatrical short. The hand-inked hand-painted full-figure character measures 2.5" x 4". It is trimmed to the image and applied to a hand-painted Courvoisier background that bears a WDP stamp in the lower left. The setup has been reframed, but the original Courvoisier paperwork has been preserved and taped to the back. This vintage production piece of one of Disney Studios most enduring stars from his very first WWII era film is any animation collector's dream. The glass front frame measures 13" x 16" with a 7" x 7.5" mat window is sold as-is. The nearly 80-year-old cel has cracked and lightly chipped paint primarily in the white areas and would benefit from professional restoration. Condition is Good.
