Doctor Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas "Pan Tooka" Production Cel Display with Storyboard and Layout Drawings (MGM, 1966). "Welcome Christmas... hang pan tookas on the ceiling!" This is the song all the residents of Whoville sing as this classic holiday TV special opens. This framed setup showcases the "Art of Animation" as well as "the Making of the Grinch!" There are four different stages of making an animation film covered here. There are two original hand-drawn, hand-colored storyboards of the "Pan Poonas" and "Pan Tookas" scene. Each one is on 6" x 6" MGM Storyboard paper, and each has dialogue written in the bottom borders. Both have been hand-signed by Chuck Jones (1912 - 2002). The third piece is the original hand-colored background layout drawing of the ceiling pan tooka. Paint color codes are called out on this drawing, which is seen in a 12" x 9" mat opening. The final setup is a rare hand-painted production cel on its Key Master painted background. This multi-piece framed display was part of a Chuck Jones Galleries display for the 40th Anniversary of the TV special, in 2006. A 40 Year Anniversary logo is included in the framed display. The Key Master cel and background setup have a Chuck Jones Estate plate signature. The "Hang the Pan Tookas" scene occurs about 1:48 into the special. This framed piece of animation history comes with four Linda Jones COAs, one for the two storyboards, one for the background layout, one for the production cel, and one for the Key Master background. The display is framed with Plexiglas with an overall mat opening of 26" x 26", and frame size of 31.5" x 32". This is the only display piece we've seen to showcase all the elements of animation from the same scene. Fine condition. From the Chuck Jones Archives.Auction Info
