Disneyland - "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage" Nautilus Model Belonging to Imagineer John D. Stone (Walt Disney, 1970s). We have seen a few models of the Nautilus from Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea before, but never one like this! The beautifully crafted resin model belonged to John D. Stone, who worked in WED (later Imagineering) to craft some of Disneyland's best attractions. He helped to create "Splash Mountain", EPCOT Center, New Fantasyland, "Indiana Jones Adventure", and more in his over two and a half decades as a senior concept designer. Stone passed away in 2013, but his incredible work remains, including this detailed model. The model was made in preparation for the attraction "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage", which opened on 10/14/1971 and brought unforgettable undersea adventures to guests as a fan favorite 20-minute submarine ride. It traveled through a mermaid-filled lagoon with eight submarines in total, taking guests past animatronic sea life, a graveyard of lost ships, the North Pole, an abyss, and even Atlantis until it closed on 9/5/1994. The Nautilus measures about 30.5'' x 7.5'' x 6.5'' on a 9.75'' x .5'' x 4.5'' stand and was used by Stone while he worked on the attraction. In Good condition with light edge and handling wear, a broken spear on the tip, minor paint wear, and a re-attached leg of the stand.Auction Info
