Description
Chibi Maruko-chan Maruko Sakura and Sumire Sakura Production Cel with Key Master Background (Nippon Animation, c. 1990-2000). The long-running anime series Chibi Maruko-chan features the life of Momoko Sakura, nicknamed Maruko. The manga was created by the Japanese author Miki Miura (1965 -2018) under the pen name Momoko Sakura, who based the popular manga on her own life with a simple yet appealing style reminiscent of a child's drawings. Presented in this lot is an excellent image of the tiny Maruko, measuring 3.5", receiving some money from her mother, Sumire, standing at 6.75". Both are sharing the same hand-painted 12 field size production cel, numbered B21 in the top right corner. The cel is presented on a great Key Master background rendering of Maruko's house in gouache on background board measuring 14" x 10". The background shows pinholes near the corners of the board. The cel is taped to the Key Master background on the top and bottom edges, with the bottom edge separated from the background while still having tape attached to both.
