Description

Boo Moon Casper the Friendly Ghost RARE 3D Production Cel Key Master Setup (Famous Studios/Paramount, 1954). "Casper the friendly ghost, the friendliest ghost you know..." sing the little Moon people when Casper visits the moon and saves their king and kingdom from the Tree Men in this setup from a wild 3D cartoon first shown on New Year's Day, 1954. The years 1952-54 were big ones for feature films in three-dimension and cartoons were getting in on the fun too! Paramount released this cartoon in 3D as the second short from their short-lived Stereotoon series (there were only two – the other 3D short was Popeye, Ace of Space). This amazing setup was made for 3D and in addition to the hand-inked and hand-painted production cel, it includes a large foreground overlay and a multi-part castle in the background against a starry sky, as painted by Robert Little (1902 – 1994). The scene occurs at about the 6:18 timestamp (in the online 2D version) after Casper defeats the Tree Men by going underground, catching their tree root legs and tying them in a knot – wow! The background elements have been carefully trimmed and set with lifts to replicate the 3D look of the short, which was directed by Izzy Sparber, Seymour Kneitel, and Myron Waldman. The setup is matted with an opening of 13.25" x 9.5" and is framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 23" x 19.25"; we believe this may be the finest vintage Casper production cel setup in existence! All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The setup is in Very Good condition with minor handling wear.
