Bambi Thumper and Bambi Production Cel Courvoisier Setup (Walt Disney, 1942). A beautiful Courvoisier setup featuring Bambi and his little forest pal Thumper on a frozen pond. Courvoisier Galleries sold these cel setups from Disney films from 1937 to 1946 in art galleries and high-end department stores throughout the US. These hand-inked and hand-painted production cels from Disney Studio's fifth animated feature film were carefully trimmed and placed over an airbrushed background, with a clear cel overlay. Both characters are full-figure with Bambi measuring 3" tall, Thumper 2" and the background bears the original WDP stamp in the lower right corner. It is matted and framed under Plexiglas with a mat opening of 5.5" x 7" in a 13" x 14" frame. There is light staining on the background by Thumper's tail and Bambi's ear and tail where the cels have lifted from the background; otherwise, condition is Very Good. Frame is sold as-is.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
