Description

Bambi Production Cel Setup with Master Background (Walt Disney, 1942). "Walking already. Well, what do you know." Undeniably charming, this is a gorgeous hand-inked and hand-painted original production cel setup from the Walt Disney animated feature masterpiece Bambi. Based loosely on Felix Salten's 1923 novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods, the David Hand-directed film was released on 8/13/1942, and it is often regarded as one of the greatest animated films of all time, listed by the American Film Institute as #3 in the Top Ten in animation. This setup features cels of Bambi, his mother and the siblings of Thumper, which were all meticulously trimmed to image. They were then displayed on an original Master background from the film that can be seen at the 8:31 mark. The background is masterfully rendered in gouache on background board, and the jaw-dropping backgrounds of the film are credited to the incomparable team of Merle J. Cox, Tyrus Wong, W. Richard Anthony, Art Riley, Stan Spohn, Robert McIntosh, Ray Huffine, Travis Johnson, Ed Levitt and Joe Stahley. This incredibly rare piece is framed under glass with a mat window size of 12" x 8" and an overall frame size of 19.5" x 15.5". Astonishingly difficult to find original Bambi production cels, let alone on a gorgeous original Master background, this piece is a must-have for any Walt Disney collector. A charming image, the cels show minor handling with the foreground tree branch showing some light paint damage. The frame is sold as-is, and the condition is Very Good.
