Astro Boy Production Cel with Production Background (Tezuka Productions, c. 1980-81). "When there's danger nearby, no matter who, what, where, when or why, he'll befriend us, he'll befriend us, the amazing Astro Boy!" Astro Boy, created by the legendary Godfather of Manga Osamu Tezuka, is the posterchild of the global phenomenon known as anime. Inspired by the classic cartoons of Max Fleischer and Walt Disney, Tezuka created Astro Boy with large and emotive eyes that would become a defining feature of the now popular anime aesthetic. The first Astro Boy series, regarded as the very first anime series, premiered in 1963, paving the way for the explosive artistic movement in the following decades. Presented is a marvelous original production cel featuring the iconic Astro Boy from the 1980 series, now in glorious color! This incredible piece is numbered A25 in the upper right corner, and it is displayed on a bright, trimmed production background from an unknown series, rendered in gouache on background board. A picture-perfect image of the historical icon flying straight into the camera, the piece shows minor handling and edge wear from normal studio use, and the condition is Very Good.More information about Tezuka.
