Astro Boy Production Cel with Master Background (Tezuka Productions, c. 1980-81). When the name Astro Boy (or Tetsuwan Atom, as he is called in Japan) is mentioned, images of the iconic character may come to mind that look like this great piece. This figure of the robotic boy soaring through the skies with his jet propulsion legs, maneuvering with his arms through the clouds, displays fantastic strength with a characteristic look of childhood innocence that has made this character a timeless representative of anime as whole. Fans would be able to recognize the character just by looking at the silhouette of the flying stance, but this sensational 12 field sized hand-painted production cel offers more than that, showcasing the quintessential character with precise detail down to his characteristic eyelashes. Astro measures 7" x 2.5" in this cel numbered A15 in its top right corner, presented on a Master background of a blue sky measuring 14.25" x 10", which is rendered in gouache on background board. The background board has pinholes in the bottom corners and the top right corner and has some tape near the lower part of the right edge. The cel shows faint handling wear from production use.
