Description
Astro Boy Production Cel with Master Background and Layout Drawing (Tezuka Productions, c. 1980-81). Created by Osamu Tezuka, Astro Boy is set in the then-distant 2030, when Dr. Tenma attempts to develop a robot that looks like his deceased son, Tobio. The result of the attempt is the mighty and noble Astro Boy. Presented in this lot is a superb image of the robot boy, measuring 6" tall on the 12 field sized hand-painted production cel numbered A6 in the top right corner. Astro is presented on a wonderful Master background of a high-tech facility, which is rendered in gouache on background board and measures 13.75" x 9.75". Also included is a layout drawing of Astro rendered in graphite and red pencil on 12 field animation paper. The production cel has some fading ink on the linework, and it is stapled to the Master background by the top corners. The Master background is stuck to the back of the cel, and it presents some foxing, pinholes near the bottom corners, and tape residue on the right edge. The layout drawing has some light toning, and has tape on the top edge near the middle peghole.
