Description

An American Tail Tanya and Papa Mousekewitz Original Production Cel (Universal/Sullivan Studios, 1986). A rare production cel from the Stephen Spielberg-produced feature film, An American Tail featuring Tanya and Papa Mousekewitz parachuting. "The film is honest in its portrayal of the violence that can spur people to immigrate, the difficult journeys they face, and the hardships that await in their new homes", says the film's director Don Bluth. While emigrating to the United States, a young Russian mouse, Fievel Mousekewitz, gets separated from his family and must relocate them while trying to survive in a new country. Fievel was Spielberg's grandfather's name. The film's dim color palette mimics the real-life dinginess of late 19th-century American cities with cobblestone streets and debris littered narrow alleyways. An American Tail doesn't shy away from representing the harsh, exploitative conditions experienced by immigrants in the 1800s. This rare production cel is hand-painted on 13" x 15" acetate. The images measure 4.5" and 3.5" (not counting the parachute lines). The cel contains An American Tail seal in the bottom left. Cel is presented in Very Good condition.
