Description
All This and Rabbit Stew Bugs Bunny Original Production Cel with Master Background (Warner Brothers, 1941). This Tex Avery-directed short is best know as the only Bugs Bunny cartoon to be included in the infamous "Censored Eleven". This group of 11 Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons originally produced by Warner Bros. between 1931 and 1944 were deemed too offensive to be aired on television due to ethnic stereotyping. It's also one of the "Twelve Missing Hares" which are 12 Bugs Bunny cartoons pulled from Cartoon Network's June Bugs Marathon back in 2001 for the same reason. Released in 1941, the title is a play on the Bette Davis film All This and Heaven Too which appeared in theaters the previous year. Offered in this lot is an exceptional production cel from this notorious theatrical short. The hand-inked hand-painted image of Bugs and his hapless pursuer appears on screen around the 2:06 mark. The full-figure image of the pair measures approximately 7.5" x 6. The nitrate cel has been trimmed to the image, mounted to a sheet of acetate, and paired with the original hand-painted background from just seconds earlier at 1:54. This Master setup is signed and dated 1941 in the lower right by an employee of Schlesinger Studios, Jane Anderson who was likely a member of the Ink and Paint department. Original production setups from the war years of Schlesinger's Termite Terrace are about as rare as it gets and an exceptional one-of-a-kind Master setup from a banned cartoon directed by one of animation's immortals is a true unicorn for collectors. The 81-year-old cel exhibits minor paint cracks, separation and a small fleck of white paint is missing in Bugs' torso. Condition is Very Good. The art is in a 19" x 16" frame under Plexiglas with a mat opening of 11.5" x 8.25". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition.Auction Info
